Why does the play happen? I've never gotten a good answer from watching it happen, but I think (and this is highly speculative) that most catcher's interference plays happen on breaking balls.2011 ZiPS Projections - Toronto Blue JaysĪll in all, 2010 was a pleasant surprise for the Jays. (In theory, any fielder could interfere with the batter's swing and get called for interference, but such an instance hasn't turned up.) And, after a few minutes, the befuddlement ends and the game goes on. On TV, the announcers will look at replays and try to figure out what happened. Eventually "Error 2" will flash on the scoreboard and then everyone will be puzzled and look around. The umpire calls time and the batter is told to go down to first and everyone sort of scratches their head for a while trying to figure out what happened. And when it happens, nobody, except for the batter, catcher, and umpire really knew what is happening. However, if the batter reaches first base on a hit, an error, a base on balls, a hit batsman, or otherwise, and all other runners advance at least one base, the play proceeds without reference to the interference.Īll that boils down to is that if the catcher's mitt touches the batter's bat before he completes his swing, catcher's interference is called. Such election shall be made immediately at the end of the play. If a play follows the interference, the manager of the offense may advise the plate umpire that he elects to decline the interference penalty and accept the play. The catcher or any fielder interferes with him. The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when: The baseball rule that spells out catcher's interference is Rule 6.08(c): I note the last instance of it on the sidebar and ask people to let me know when the play occurs, which invariably happens when I'm away from a computer, out of town, or busy with some other mundane task, like eating. A batter reaching base on catcher's interference who comes around to score is an unearned run, but batters who reach after him are usually earned runs.įor reasons I've never figured out, I felt that it was one of my missions in life to keep track of this play on my blog, The Griddle. But a batter who came up just once in a game and reached base on catcher's interference would keep a hitting streak going. The play doesn't count as an at bat for the batter, but the batter doesn't get credited in his on-base percentage for reaching base safely. It is an event that happens just infrequently enough for people not to care about it, but important enough that the official scorer has to report all instances of it in the totals of a game. The line above has often been used in baseball box scores to denote one of baseball's orphaned statistics: catcher's interference. What was once a largely indecipherable mess has become a high-resolution crash scene photograph, with clear patterns emerging from the murk. Here, in the sweep of a computer mouse, is the entire wreck of the Titanic-every bollard, every davit, every boiler. The image is rich in detail: In one frame we can even make out a white crab clawing at a railing. Now we can see the Titanic’s bow in gritty clarity, a gaping black hole where its forward funnel once sprouted, an ejected hatch cover resting in the mud a few hundred feet to the north. Lange turns to his computer and points to a portion of the map that has been brought to life by layering optical data onto the sonar image. On closer inspection, though, the site appears to be littered with man-made detritus-a Jackson Pollock-like scattering of lines and spheres, scraps and shards. At first look the ghostly image resembles the surface of the moon, with innumerable striations in the seabed, as well as craters caused by boulders dropped over millennia from melting icebergs. In a tricked-out trailer on a back lot of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), William Lange stands over a blown-up sonar survey map of the Titanic site-a meticulously stitched-together mosaic that has taken months to construct. Never have we taken the full measure of what’s down there. Never have we been able to grasp the relationships between all the disparate pieces of wreckage. Yet we’ve mainly glimpsed the site as though through a keyhole, our view limited by the dreck suspended in the water and the ambit of a submersible’s lights. In recent years explorers like James Cameron and Paul-Henry Nargeolet have brought back increasingly vivid pictures of the wreck. From time to time, beginning with the discovery of the wreck in 1985 by Explorer-in-Residence Robert Ballard and Jean-Louis Michel, a robot or a manned submersible has swept over Titanic’s gloomy facets, pinged a sonar beam in its direction, taken some images-and left. Weird colorless life-forms, unfazed by the crushing pressure, prowl its jagged ramparts. The wreck sleeps in darkness, a puzzlement of corroded steel strewn across a thousand acres of the North Atlantic seabed. This story appears in the April 2012 issue of National Geographic magazine. If you have an older, shallow electrical box, its 1.7-inch depth may make it difficult to cram in, particularly if you’re dealing with a past homeowner’s haphazard DIY approach to wiring. Unfortunately, Wemo makes some of the huskier smart switches on the market, and that’s true here. Related: The best smart bulbs you can buy right now It also comes with clear, well-illustrated instructions with no gaps that I felt the need to backfill with independent research, which is never a guarantee with these things. In the box, Wemo includes a white jumper cable for connecting to your neutral wires (which should also be white) and a wire nut for easily connecting it. And because the switch uses interchangeable line and load wires (the usually black wires that carry power from your breaker box and to the light, respectively), you don’t have to worry if you get the two mixed up, making installation all the easier. It was a little tough to wiggle the wire beneath the clamping plate inside, but once in, they were snug. The terminal holes in the back were large enough for me to stick the wire and its housing into the back, leaving no exposed copper. The Wemo smart switch with Thread takes the latter approach, which I tend to prefer as it ultimately saves space - you’re not jamming four wire nuts into an already cramped electrical box - and allows for more secure physical connections directly to the body of the switch. Some have color-coded wires jutting out from the body of the switch, while others simply let you connect existing wiring either to the screws on the side or through ports on the back. Smart switches tend to take a couple of different approaches to setup. Your CNN account Log in to your CNN account Like to the great sage Son Ogon, the reason why he was been punished is not yet totally revealed. Though I think the writer keeps this hanging as most of the characters still have this hanging background as to the present episode. The background story of her childhood have less information thought it gives this mysterious image to her. It didn't mentioned what happened to her parents and why she end up with her grandma. There are some information about the characters that was not been explained well in the story. Lee Seung Gi and Oh Yeon-seo surely got the chemistry to make the viewers feel the emotions of their characters. There's a lot of twist in the story that will leave you an impact and hanging emotion especially at the end of every episodes.Īlong the way of watching this episodes, it will give you the sense of thrill, happiness, sadness, fantasy and most of all romantic excitement. Not really knowing if the characters are ally or enemy as there's a lot of backstabbing happening on the characters. This series surely have a set of great actors that gives spice to their role. The actors gave justice to their character. I will give this Korean drama 5 star for the following reasons, An elderly deity who looks after Son Oh-gong and the other demons. The two personalities is totally opposite, as General Dong is an Ice general and Fairy Ha, is a Summer fairy. Being an ice cream owner in the morning and a bar owner in the evening. She died from an accident but because of Sam-Jang's blood she roseup from the dead and became a zombie.Lee Se-young - as Jung Se-ra / Jin Bu-ja / Ah Sa-nyeo He's the right hand of Son Oh-gong, a CEO of a mobile phone manufacturing company.Jang Gwang - as Yoon Dae-sik / Sa Oh-jeong He's one of the top star of Ma-wang's agency. His character surely brings color to the show. Since Jin Seon-Mi have the power to control Son Ogong by the use of geumgango who was originally came from Woo Mawang, he uses that to make a contract with her in the condition of defeating demons by using Son Ogong, and credit all the points to him. The story is not yet clear on why it turned out that way, but Woo Mawang is trying his best to do good deeds for him to earn points so he can be a deity and lift the punishment for his lover. He was exiled because of a human and was punished to be locked up for thousands of year, all of those things happened from trusting a human.Īnd 2nd would be Woo Hwi-Chul/ Woo Mawang, though you can't really guess if he's an ally or enemy of Son Ogong, but he have a soft spot especially when it comes to love, as he's been enduring pain for thousands of years because of his lover who's been exiled to be a human and to live and die miserably for eternity, this was said to be all because of him. There's a lot of mystery in him that is not yet revealed, but from what I've seen up to the present episodes, he's not originally bad, it is the human who made him that way. His character gave me this deep impression. He was described as a self centered, mean and stone hearted demon, who doesn't care to anyone, until everything changes when he got the geumgango which the effect was for him to fall in love to Jin Seon-Mi who gave the thing to him. My favorite charactersįirst would be Son Ogong. Jin Seon-Mi find a deterrent by the use of this magical bracelet, whom the effect is to make Son Ogong fall deeply in love with her. Originally Son Ogong was planning to eat Jin Seon-Mi to gain more power as she became Sam-jang when she releases Son Ogong from the marble mountain, her blood makes all the demons more powerful that makes her life endangered especially when she's wounded as her blood attracts evil demons. The story will rotate on this magical bracelet. Until one day, she and Son Ogong have crossed their path again which started their new chapter to their lives. 25 years later Jin Seon-Mi (played by Oh Yeon-seo ) is now a real state CEO, she uses her ability to drive away bad spirits and resell houses with notorious bad luck. The tang is connected to the tape with loose rivets through oval holes, and can move a distance equal to its thickness, to provide both inside and outside measurements that are accurate. This type of tape measure will have a floating tang or hook on the end to aid measuring. Measuring tapes designed for carpentry or construction often use a stiff, curved metallic ribbon that can remain stiff and straight when extended, but retracts into a coil for convenient storage. Today, measuring tapes made for sewing are made of fiberglass, which does not tear or stretch as easily. These types of tape measures were mainly used for the measuring of the subject’s waist line. Tape measures that were intended for use in tailoring or dressmaking were made from flexible cloth or plastic. Tapes may have different scales, be made of different materials, and be of different lengths depending on the use it is intended for. Tape measures are often designed for specific uses or trades. Long tapes instead of being returned by a spring, were usually returned by hand crank. Surveyors also used 49? feet of a 50-foot tape for 3 rods and 99 feet of a 100-foot tape measure for 6 rods. Because surveying was usually done in rods, surveyors use long tapes of 33 feet (2 rods), and 66 feet (4 rods). These are cased tape measures with tapes of 25, 50, 75, 100, 200, 300, and even 500 feet in length, designed for engineers and builders. When most people think of a tape measure, they are thinking of the pocket tape measure.Ī second tape measure design is what is called the long tape. Pocket tape measures have a tape one foot to fifteen feet in length and ? to ? inches across. The tape is returned to the case by a spring mechanism. They are small, the case is up to about three inches across. Spring return pocket tape measures will generally fit in a pocket. There are two basic types of tape measures with cases, spring return pocket tape measures and long tape measures. Surveyors use tape measures in lengths of over 100 m (300+ ft). Today it is ubiquitous, even appearing in miniature form as a keychain fob, or novelty item. Its design allows for a measure of great length to be easily carried in pocket or toolkit and permits one to measure around curves or corners. It consists of a ribbon of cloth, plastic, fibre glass, or metal strip with linear-measurement markings. A tape measure or measuring tape is a flexible ruler and used to measure distance. |
